A snowy run in Nashville???

http://www.wkrn.com/global/story.asp?s=11987343

I tried to escape the snow of Michigan for a few days by heading down to Nashville to visit Matt and Maggie. Well that didn't work out as planned. I did manage two days of non snow running, but I woke this morning to a snow covered terrain.
This was the first time I have experienced snow in Nashville. The grass still spiked it's tips through the light fluffy dusting and the hardy Pansies still fought to glow yellow and purple in the wintery landscape, both reminding me that this was still better than Michigan.
Stange to a Michigander, is the way this small amount of snow almost completely shuts such a large city down. I needed to get out on the roads to experience this for myself, so Scott, Maggie, and I piled into the jeep and ventured out in hopes of making it to the mall at Cool Springs. Well, first of all there is not a road in Nashville that is designed with snow in mind, as in there are no shoulders and beyond the no shoulder is not just a ditch, but a drop off a small mountain. Second, snow and twisty turny hilly mountain roads do not work well when they have been snowed on considering that the roads start out a little warm so the first of the snow to hit the roads turns to ice. Add these things to the fact that people in this state are not used to or prepared to drive on these roads, you understand better why things shut down over such a small amount of snow.
So I didn't get away from the snow, but I did get some great time with my kids and that is really the reason I came here. Getting away from the snow is a good excuse for a visit.
