A little time with the "Snowbirds"
I am heading to Gulf Shores to spend some time with my mom. Hopefully I make there today. I am writing this from the airport in Detroit after a couple of cancelled flights. Anyway, my mom and dad gradually became Snowbirds, traveling down to Gulf Shores for a little longer each year. It's been about 20 years now, with an unwanted break in the annual event 9 years ago. That's when my dad passed away. I used to make it an annual trip to visit them. It was always great uninterrupted one on one time with my parents. For 4 years my mom could not make the trip back down there, to many memories. But now, thanks to Jim, who she married a couple of years after my dad died, and my cousins who also travel down there, she is having fun in Alabama again. So, it will be different for me making the trip back. I'm sure there will be memories that will surface of walking the beach with my dad, looking for shells, and just hanging out. I must say I am looking forward to pondering some of those very fond memories!
