Listen: Pay close attention to; give heed to.
Listener: Someone who listens attentively.
Attentive: Taking heed; giving close and thoughtful attention.
Thoughtful: Having intellectual depth, Taking heed; giving close and thoughtful attention, Considerate of the feelings or well-being of others.

Sometimes we really need to ponder the actual meaning of words. I am not a great listener. My personality moves me to be the talker, not the listener. When I read the definitions above, I really want to work on becoming a better listener. I can learn by listening, become kinder by listening, have a better understanding of others by listening, help someone by listening. These are things I want for my life and my relationships!
I don't think I will stop being a talker, it is a part of who I am. I sort of like that about myself; interacting, meeting people, engaging in conversation... but I am going to make a conscious effort to become a listener also. So if you are around me and I am not talking, don't worry. Nothings wrong, I am trying to practice listening. (and to my boys, if I'm talking to much 'cause I'm so excited to be in your company, tell me to be quiet and listen...nicely, please)
