A snowy morning run.

Most people who know me know that I run every morning and that I'm not a fan of winter. This morning I woke to at least 12" of fresh snow! Needless to say I was not excited about the thought of piling on the layers of winter running apparel and lacing up the good 'ol Brooks Adrenaline's to venture out into this winter wonderland. I was quite comfortable sitting in my cozy chair in the kitchen, thinking a day off sounded good and justifiable. But not to be. First, the bouncing brown fur ball named Ella, was quite ecstatic about the snow fall and let me know that she was ready to go, the sooner the better! Next was the fact that, no matter what, a day just never feels right without that morning time outside.
So I ready myself and the extremely excited brown dog (this takes time I must say) and we hit the road or should I say the snow.
I made my way down to my favorite country road following the few tire tracks from the early to work crowd. As we were pounding the powder with our paws and sneakers, I could not help but admire the beauty that surrounded me. The sun was just beginning to show signs that it would make an appearance today and began to glisten off the snow on the tree tops. I stopped to let Ella sniff some tracks in the snow (she is always checking for Mr. Coyote, of whom she is terrified). As I was stopped I stood in awe of the silence. It was peaceful and I listened just to the quiet of winter, a few birds chirping so clearly through the crisp clear air. Chirping as if they were happy to have a moment in time to be heard.
Yes, I am still way to eager for summer, but I am so glad I had this morning. It was a gift in many ways and I appreciated it.
