So after our not so fun Harley ride on Memorial Day weekend, we finally have her back in our garage. An afternoon trip to Grand Haven ended abruptly when the young 'girl' just sputtered and died. We coasted into a driveway along Lakeshore Drive and began to ponder what could be wrong with a brand new bike. We tried several things, had many offers of help from fellow Harley bikers riding by, and met some new friends in the nice people who's driveway we ended up in. We called Harley of Grand Rapids to see if they had any suggestions. No luck there and they were closing so they couldn't come and pick her up that day. So we called good 'ol AAA for a tow or whatever you call it when it's a motorcycle. Well, we waited for 2+ hours. It could have been worse. We could have been along the highway, in the blazing sun of that day, it could have rained, we could have been without cell phone service...but instead I sat in the shade, met several very nice Harley bikers, had a lot of time to talk to my spouse, and I talked with the 3 charming children (they belonged to the driveway we were in), met their puppy Sophie, and was served a tasty lemonade Popsicle.
Our "tow" finally came in the form of a flatbed truck which we both looked at wondering how in the world...? And it was not comforting when the driver said he'd never done this before, but it should be sort of like putting her in a pick up truck. It did all work out though. We got her loaded and strapped on and headed home. It was a tense ride with the 'baby' broken on the back of a flatbed, but we made it. The following Tuesday GR Harley picked her up and fixed her, hopefully better than new since new didn't work out so well.(something about a crank? I don't know). So anyway, She's back were she belongs waiting for a nice day to head out on the Michigan roads again. I can't wait!
